Project in focus: Corinthia Hotel Lusail, Qatar

Corinthia Hotels will operate an eye-popping Zaha Hadid Architects-designed property inspired by the shape of a flowering plant in Lusail City, Qatar.

Work is progressing on the creation of an architecturally striking landmark scheme in the oil-rich nation of Qatar. We find out what to expect.

A unique offering from Zaha Hadid

As one of the last designs by the late Dame Zaha Hadid, Corinthia Hotel Lusail is set to become a major draw for architecture buffs around the world upon completion. This 200-room property for Al Alfia Holding will sit within a dramatic 33-storey tower, a building that was commissioned in 2013 by HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani as part of Lusail city’s masterplan for building a sustainable, integrated community.

Situated within the city’s Marina District, the hotel continues the city’s ecological considerations with a structure that takes inspiration from a desert hyacinth, which is native to the landscapes and coastlines of the Arabian Gulf. Corinthia was brought in to operate the property in 2017; when the scheme finally opens to the public, it plans to provide the same high standards of hospitality seen at the company’s other properties across Europe and Africa.

A one-of-a-kind hotel experience

Corinthia takes great pride in creating an experience that’s made to measure for guests, with meticulous attention paid to every detail – each hotel pays tribute to the traditions and cultures of the destination it’s in. In Qatar, this philosophy will doubtless be central to the experience for guests staying at the hotel or in the tower’s plush serviced residences.

The hotel will encompass 200 guest rooms, six dining and drinking venues, an indoor and outdoor swimming pool and large function rooms, including a ballroom. It’s scheduled to open in Q4 2020.
